Recovery From Back Pain
A story of pain and the journey to a full recovery with the help of Mindful Alignment
Frederick was one of my first clients
He had been living with and trying to ignore his pain for quite some time. As daily activities became more painful and difficult, he realized he needed some help. Here, he shares his journey, the experience and how he regained his physical freedom.
His Story:
A few years ago, I noticed some back pain. I decided to ignore it. Gradually it got worse. Soon it was starting to affect my life. I moved less than I did before, which was not that much. Except for an occasional walk outside, exercise was not part of my weekly routine – – I was too busy. Eventually, parking the car became a chore of finding the spot closest to the door. Even sitting at my computer was beginning to be uncomfortable.
It was time to take action. One of my friends suggested that I contact “Mindful Alignment with Linda.” My friend has known Linda for many years and was familiar with the challenges she had along her journey to recovery from 2 falls. During a phone call to discuss my situation, it was clear that she has extensive knowledge about how the body works and a passion for helping people. I decided to schedule an assessment session ASAP!
When we first met, Linda asked me to move, stand, and walk. While stretching this way and that, I could feel her watchful eyes assessing every move. At each step, she asked how it felt and where I could feel any tightness or pain.
When we sat down for a discussion about her observations, I was made aware of several imbalances that I had not noticed. There was visible tightness and a reduced range of motion. One side of my body did not move the same as the other side when I walked. I was not sure then what this had to do with my back, though.
Next, we discussed my goal of reducing the pain. Linda said improvement would be accomplished by trying different movement techniques and yoga, which I had never done. Each week some of the movements would be the same, and some would be different.
I asked to try some movements, so I could assess if this was the right path for me. Linda gently guided me in some poses and exercises, asking at each step how each felt. By the end of that first session, I was confident that this was going to help me.
Today, my pain has been eliminated. I am walking better, even taking long walks again. Sitting is no longer an issue. I understand the importance of exercise and yoga in my life. My strength and flexibility have improved. I have even attended some yoga classes.
The attention I received in my private sessions with Linda has made a difference in my life. Today, I continue my weekly private sessions. Under her watchful eye, I keep my body moving, trying to prevent any future problems.
Her expert assistance has made all the difference in my taking action to improve my daily life and sustain my improvement.
My passion is helping others gain back their physical freedom
Guiding Frederick on his wellness journey has been very rewarding. He has an engineer’s mindset, asking questions about how one area of tightness or pain is related to another. He better understands the relationship between pain and lack of movement in his weekly routine. Educating my clients helps them to make better decisions in their daily lives. For Frederick, new habits have slowly replaced bad habits that took many years to form.
Frederick continues to be more mindful of how he moves and stands. He has been rewarded for all his hard work and dedication to being more active with improved strength, flexibility, and ease.
