Exercise Motivation Tips
A recently published article stated that there are “four facts” you need to know about exercise.
First: Exercise is for everyone.
Your shape and weight are not the deciding factor. Someone who has a few extra pounds may be very fit. A thinner person might look fit and healthy but have a lower fitness level. In other words, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” What is essential is having the energy and endurance to live an active life. Strength, flexibility, endurance, and agility are the keys. Remember, all bodies are designed to move.
Brain health is also essential. Moving more, getting enough sleep, and having a positive attitude will help, as well.
Second: Disease and age are not barriers to moving.
Whether you have limited mobility or have a chronic disease, you can still move some part of the body even if it is limited to on area of the body. Again, start small if this is you. Often, those with chronic health conditions will reap the most benefits.
Walking is a great way to get started. Begin with just a few minutes a day. Then increase the time every week.
Third: Challenge yourself to become stronger.
Acknowledge that you might have a few sore muscles at the beginning. When that happens, say to yourself, “it’s working.” Improvement requires change. Finding an ‘accountability partner’ will help keep you progressing.
Fourth: Mindset is so important.
If you think you can, then you can! Remind yourself that you have faced challenges before. Life is full of change and challenges. Otherwise, life would not develop our minds! Celebrating your accomplishments will motivate you to keep going. Rate yourself at the end of each week. Life’s really a competition with yourself, not others.
Yoga is a great tool to improve strength, flexibility, endurance, and agility. In a yoga class, you are encouraged to clear your mind, become more aware of your body, and breath.
Proper breathing increases blood flow which increases energy. More energy encourages you to move more. Movement stimulates the lymphatic system to function better, removing the toxins from our bodies, especially the legs. When one sits for long periods, the lymphatic system does not perform at optimum levels. Yoga helps to stimulate your lymphatic system.
Once you get moving and your energy level increases, add more techniques into your weekly movement plan. Walking every day and taking yoga classes 2-3 times per week will help sustain your body health. In addition, you connect with other like-minded people that further inspire you along your journey to better health.
Bottom Line: Eat a nutritious diet, move more and focus on the positive for a healthier mind and body.
