Change Is Inevitable – Why Not Embrace It!
The world is continuously changing.
The seasons change. Our businesses change. Our neighborhood and even our families change. We change.
We can’t stop change.
What we can control is how we react to change. We can fight it, but then we have constant stress because change is continuous. Constant stress is not good for our body or our mind and causes us to lose sleep and adopt poor nutrition, to name just a few consequences.
Accept the Things You Cannot Change
The alternative is to “accept change.” This sounds easy, but it’s really hard. You may have even tried to do it. So, how do you best go about “accepting change?”
How to put it into practice
Notice what happens when change occurs. Notice how you react — your emotions, feelings, and the level of tension in the body. Then name that particular feeling or emotion. Say: ”There it is again.” This technique is called: “noting.”
You might even say to yourself: “That’s how I reacted the last time.” Then, just let it go.” Before long, you will become the outside observer, noticing how you reacted in the past. This technique is called: “distancing.” It slows down or eliminates the reaction.
If it’s tension that you experience
- Take a moment to focus on your breath.
- Take one inhale through the nose.
- Then pause and exhale slowly.
- Repeat this sequence 3-5 times.
- Notice the rise and fall of the belly as you breathe.
The breath is always with you, and no one even knows you are using this technique. It’s invisible and completely portable.
It takes only a few minutes to implement these techniques. It will take some time to see change, but, before long, you will notice a positive shift in your attitude toward “change.”
You may even begin to look forward to change.
Some change is for the better. What change is in “your” future? Help prepare yourself with this knowledge.
